Purpose

The California Black Chamber of Commerce Foundation (CBCCF) Youth Scholarship seeks to encourage, support and assist young entrepreneurs and students in scholastic achievement, community service and empowerment in the areas of business development and technology.


Eligibility & Application Guidelines

The CBCC Foundation Scholarship is awarded to youth who are actively involved in reaching entrepreneur goals and community services within the Business and technology Industries. You must be a High School Graduate or in your 1st year at college. Your GPA should be from 2.0 - 3.5 in order to qualify for this program. Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 on the basis of a competitive process, which considers entrepreneurial goals, community service, academic achievement, and the quality of materials submitted. Winners will be announced at the Chairman's Scholarship Luncheon on August 17, 2013. Winners will be selected and notified by July 10, 2013.

Applications Process

To apply for the CBCCF Scholarship Program, applicants must submit the following materials and supporting documents as outlined below. 1. High School transcript if graduating in June. 2. Verification of enrollment letter from the school you will be attending in the fall. 3. College Sophomores must submit a college transcript. 4. Two (2) letters of recommendation (one school, one community). 5. An essay/personal statement that details some demonstrable business acumen and/or desire to be an entrepreneur in 500 words. Every effort should be made by applicants to include as much of the requested material as possible. All applications forms and supplementary documentation must be received and/ or post marked by June 21,2013.


Essay/Personal Statement

Enclose a typewritten essay (not to exceed 500 words/doubled-spaced) detailing your desire to be or interpretation of an entrepreneur and what it means to give back to your community. Also include your goals, involvement in community service activities, hours and plans as they relate to your career in business and /or technology. Include achievements, motivating factors and important experiences, which have helped to shape your personal philosophy and/or your career goals. Also include information regarding your involvement in your local ministry or community. State clearly why you think you should receive the scholarship award. Think carefully about your statement, as it is very important in the selection process. Applications without an essay/personal statement will not be considered for a scholarship award.

Letters of Recommendation

Applicants are to submit two letters of recommendation. Suggested sources might include school administrations, teachers, counselors, mentors, coaches, ministry directors, employers, supervisors, pastors or business associates.


Academic Records

All money will be distributed to YOUR school Financial Aid Office or Scholarship Office to your account. Please include academic information on forms included in this application package. Please include the School Mailing Address, your Social Security Number and Date of Birth along with your Student ID number to assure proper distribution of funds. See your school registrar for additional information regarding Student ID number. Failure to have this information submitted will delay your check. **Please note the check will not be sent to you; it will be sent to the College you are attending.
